The information minister and the state minister for foreign affairs of the government are engaged in spreading propaganda against BNP, the opposition party has alleged.

BNP raised the allegation at a press conference on Thursday after the two cabinet members blamed the party for hiring lobbyists in the United States against the government.

“Two ministers of the government have given ghostly information about the appointment of lobbyists by BNP like the filing of thousands of ghost cases against the opposition men. They actually have been stuck with contradictory statements about the number of imaginary lobbyist firms and the amount of money,” BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said.

He made the statement while addressing the press conference at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office

in the capital on Thursday.

The party arranged the conference to give its official reaction about the allegation of hiring lobbyists in the United States.

“The government’s information minister and the state minister for foreign affairs have been involved in propaganda against BNP in a bid to divert people’s criticism to elsewhere from their corruption, misrule and activities against democracy and human rights,” he added.

Mosharraf also termed the allegation of hiring lobbyists against BNP as ‘baseless, fabricated and motivated’.

“The truth is that BNP never has taken any decision of hiring lobbyists and didn’t feel necessity of appointing lobbyist also. The BNP leaders themselves say what the lobbyists will say and also not in secret but in public,” he added.

BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khashru Mahmud Chowdhury and Selima Rahman were also present in the press conference.
