Masud Khalifa, sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station, told the Daily Sun that the accident took place near Hatirjheel Ahsanul Ulum Madrasa and Orphanage at North Begunbari at about 2:35am.  He said, “We guess Habib lost control of his motorbike and hit a sidewalk in Madhubagh area, resulting in his fatal injury.”

Eyewitness Mohammad Russell took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, he said.

Inspector Bachuchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, told the Daily Sun that he was taken to the hospital around 3:00am and the doctors on duty declared him dead.

When contacted, Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, told the Daily Sun that they were primarily assuming that he died after losing control over his bike.

“We are trying to collect CCTV footages on the incident. If we get it, we can confirm whether he lost control or any vehicle hit him or anything else,” he said.

“I was about 100 yards away from accident spot. Suddenly, I heard a loud sound from back and looked at that point. And I found a motorcyclist was falling on the footpath. I rushed to him and some others from a mosque came to him too,” eyewitness Russell told the Daily Sun.

In response to a question whether he saw any vehicle that hit his motorbike and ran away, he replied in the negative.

The first Namaz-e-Janaza of the deceased was held on the premises of the DRU at Segunbagicha while the second on the Dhaka University campus and the third in front of his workplace, Somoyer Alo, at Bangla Motor.
