Former national skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will miss a few opening round matches of the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League T20 after he sustained a back injury during a practice session on Tuesday.
Mashrafe, who had taken pain-killer injection to make him available for the tournament, sustained the fresh injury while bowling to his Minister Dhaka teammate Tamim Iqbal at the National Cricket Academy in Mirpur.
“After taking the injection he was feeling quite well and as a result, he tried to bowl in full run-up but his latest injury in his back jeopardised his comeback plan,” Minister Dhaka Physio Enamul Haque told the reporters on Tuesday.
The 38-year old previously played a competitive match on December 18, 2020 when he represented Gemcon Khulna in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup final against Gazi Group Chattogram.
Meanwhile, BCB Physician Debashish Chowdhury said that several cricketers and members of the support staff were found corona positive ahead of the BBPL. Debashish, however, didn’t disclose the names and the exact number of corona infected persons.
