NETRAKONA: Works of a project for repairing and reconstructing of 165 kilometers long submergible embankment in the downstream areas in nine upazilas of the district are progressing fast.
The nine upazilas are Khaliajury, Kalmakanda, Mohonganj, Modan, Durgapur, Barhatta, Atpara, Purbadhala and Kendua.
The project has been undertaken to protect the hybrid and high yielding verities of Boro paddy of the haor areas in the district from flash flood waters.
Farmers have cultivated hybrid and high yielding verities of Boro paddy on a total of 40,760 hectors of land in the haor areas of the nine upazilas under the district which widely known as paddy surplus area of the country.
Executive Engineer of WDB Netrakona office M L Saikat said, nine separate project implementation committees (PIC) headed by upazila nirbahi officers of the nine upazilas have already been formed for supervising the project works. Meanwhile, 15 percent works of the project have been completed, he said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman, who is also the president of the district money for works schemes implementing and monitoring committee, told that necessary instructions have been issued to the concerned PICs for closely monitoring the on going works of the project so that none could get any scope to involve in corruption or misuse of government allocated money.
“The PICs have already been asked to take necessary measures for completing the project works properly within the stipulated time”, the DC added.
