Bangladesh women’s national cricket team will face their Malaysian counterparts in the opening match of the ICC Commonwealth Games Qualifier 2022 at Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia today.
The match is scheduled to start at 07:30am (BST) and it will be live-streamed on ICC.TV.
The round-robin T20 tournament will decide the last team to join the seven teams already qualified - Australia, Barbados, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa - for the prestigious multi-sport event in Birmingham, England in July-August this year.
Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty expressed her confidence in making place in the main tournament as she claimed that they are well-prepared for the five-team competition.
“We are very confident. It wasn’t easy for us to return to competitive cricket after the disruptions of training and matches because of Covid-19. However, we are well prepared now, having played in different conditions during the past few months,” Joty was quoted in an ICC media release on Sunday.
“We have experienced campaigners to complement the youthful exuberance in our team. It’s going to be a combined effort from all of us if we do well here,” she added.
Bangladesh earlier defeated Scotland by 12 runs in their lone warm-up match in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
