Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday said the corporation will provide hotel and restaurant workers as well as street vendors training in food safety.

“We have foods in hotels and restaurants when we stay outside. So, ensuring food safety is a must for keeping ourselves healthy. It is our responsibility,” he said.

The mayor made the remarks while speaking at a view exchange meeting with hotel and restaurant owners at DNCC headquarters in Gulshan-2.

He said the health department of the corporation has been directed to arrange training for them.

The DNCC will conduct mobile courts to ensure food safety and raise awareness in this regard for two months, said Atiq. “Many Bangladeshis have succeeded in running food business abroad, maintaining hygiene. I want to know why we cannot implement the process in the country,” he said.

He urged the businessmen to monitor their businesses strictly for ensuring food safety.
