State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam disclosed information in parliament on Monday that the BNP-Jamaat duo has spent money on lobby in the United States in the last five years.
“I have a proof that how much amount has been spent by the BNP-Jamaat combine on US lobby firms over the last five years,” he said while speaking on the thanksgiving motion on the President’s speech.
“Having an address of the BNP’s Paltan office, an agreement was signed. The agreement was valid for three years and $50,000 was given each month. It means nearly two million dollars was paid for the purpose,” he told the parliament with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Showing some documents in the House, Shahriar Alam said he has possessed 10 such documents.
Raising a question over such spending, the state minister has called for an investigation.
He said each political party submits its accounts on expenditure and income to the Election Commission.
“BNP should be asked whether this money was given with the approval of Bangladesh Bank. If not, we want an investigation into whether the money of orphans has been laundered abroad to pay for lobby,” he said.
The state minister said the future of Bangladesh will be determined by 16 crore people of Bangladesh. No country in the world, no matter how powerful, can determine the future of Bangladesh.
“If we have problems we will hold discussion in parliament. We will take to the streets. We will solve the problem there. We will go to the Election Commission. We will go to the President,” he said.
