Today is the 88th birthday of Ekushey Padak-winning playwright, language movement hero, theatre activist and actor Momtazuddin Ahmed. He was born on January 18 in 1935 in Malda, British India.
To mark the day, drama troupe ‘Theatre’ has organised a discussion and cultural programme at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 06:00pm.
Momtazuddin Ahmed is mostly known for his satirical plays and columns depicting social and political anomalies. He wrote around 40 plays for stage, radio and television and directed several of them.
His popular plays are ‘Ki Chaho Shankhachil’, ‘Raja Anuswarer Pala’, ‘Hridoy Ghatita Byapar Syapar’, ‘Saat Ghater Kanakari’, ‘Swadhinata Amar Swadhinata’, ‘Bakulpurer Swadhinata’ and others.
He received Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1976 and Ekushey Padak in 1997. Momtazuddin Ahmed breathed his last on June 2 in 2019.
