Two security guards of Government Bangla College were nabbed from Sreepur in Gazipur and Mohammadpur in the capital on Sunday for their alleged involvement in a murder.

The arrestees are Abdul Jalil and Abdul Mannan, said Harun-Ar-Rashid, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), at a press conference at DMP Media Centre.

The decomposed body of Rubel Mia was discovered at Room 816 on the fourth floor of a 10-storey building under construction of the college in Darussalam in the capital on January 13. The next day, his paternal uncle lodged a murder case with Darussalam Police Station.

The officer said that Rubel went missing from his home address in Lalmonirhat sadar on January 5.

The victim was mentally ill, he said, adding that police were suspecting that he might have come to the capital for treatment as he had a doctor’s prescription.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees said that they stumbled across Rubel in the building on the afternoon of January 9. They suspected him of being a thief, as goods were stolen from the building earlier.

Later, they took him to the room and tied him with rope. At one point, they throttled him with a rope leading to his death, Harun said.

After his death, the security guards switched off their mobile phones and fled the scene.
