Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar on Sunday expressed his satisfaction over the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls, terming it one of the best elections held under the incumbent Election Commission.
“Many city corporation elections were held in the last five years… to me, Narayanganj city polls is the best one in our tenure,” Mahbub Talukdar said at press briefing at his office in the capital.
“Narayanganj city election was the last one under the incumbent commission. I have already said all’s well that ends well. I visited 14 booths of four polling centres. No violence was reported over the polls,” he said.
Citing media reports, Mahbub Talukdar said some people were arrested after the announcement of the poll schedule. “But we got no information from the authorities concerned on the arrest. Even the EC Secretariat has no record in this regard.”
“It is a big question why a number of cases were filed during the previous elections. Just before the Narayanganj city polls, many were arrested in connection with the previous cases,” he added.
