Khaleda’s adviser Prof Tajmeri Islam lands in jail

A Dhaka court has sent BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Prof Dr Tajmeri S Islam to jail rejecting bail petition in a case filed on charges of obstructing police from performing duties.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Arafatul Rakib passed the order on Thursday after police produced her before the court. She was later taken to Kashimpur Central Jail around 9:00pm.

On Thursday morning, Prof Tajmeri S Islam was arrested from a house at road no-11 of sector 13 in Uttara in connection with the case.

The case was filed with Uttara (West) Police Station on September 23, 2018 accusing 134 people including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

High Court (HC) granted Tajmeri bail on October 18 the same year in the case till submission of the probe report.

Police on March 4, 2020 submitted a charge sheet against 75 people including Tajmeri Islam.  After accepting the charge sheet, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against her on May 7, 2020.

Prof Tajmeri S Islam was a former dean of Science Faculty at Dhaka University and the convener of White Panel, a BNP-backed teachers association of the university.
