Bangladesh national football team’s scheduled tour of Indonesia got cancelled on Thursday after they failed to meet the requirements of Covid-19 vaccination.

The men in red and green were scheduled to play two FIFA tier-1 friendly matches against the hosts on January 24 and 27 respectively in Bali and ahead of the tour, their newly appointed head coach Javier Cabrera was also expected to arrive in Dhaka on Saturday to start their preparation camp.

However, the Bangladesh Football Federation informed through a media release that in order to enter Indonesia, all players and coaching staff must have acquired two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

But many Bangladeshi players are yet to be vaccinated. “We have found out that 15 of our current team players have double vaccination, seven players have single vaccination and the remaining six players have not got a single dose yet. Therefore, we are unable to take part in this tour,” BFF Vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed said in a video message.

The BFF is currently making a list of 40-50 footballers, comprising the national team and Under-23 players, and they will send it to the ministry of health and family welfare to get all the players fully vaccinated ahead of the FIFA friendlies during March.
