At least five people were killed in two separate road accidents in Madhupur and Mirzapur upazilas of Tangail district on Friday.

Three auto-rickshaw passengers died after a pickup had collided head-on with their vehicle in Kaitkai area of Madhupur.

The diseased were identified as Sharmin Akter, 32, and her daughter Shohagi Akter, 3. They were from Dewangonj Upazila in Jamalpur district. Another victim is Rasel Mia, 22, from Sreebordi Upazila in Sherpur district.

The accident took place on Madhupur-Jamalpur road near Rupali Filling Station at 7:00 am on Friday, said Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Tarique Kamal.

After the accident, the victims were rushed to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors pronounced them dead.  Both the vehicles were seized, said the police officer.

Another road crash took place at 12:00pm on Gorai-Sakhipur road at Mirzapur upazila, leaving two people dead and five injured.

The accident occurred when a passenger bus collided head-on with a covered van in Telipara area of Banshtail Union in the upazila, said Banshtail Police Outpost SI Selim Hossain.

Two people were killed on the spot and five were injured in the accident. The names of the victims couldn’t be known immediately, said the police officer.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
