Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the owner of a private hospital in the capital’s Shyamoli area on Friday in connection with the death of a child.

The death occurred after the hospital authorities allegedly discharged a pair of ailing twins without providing full treatment following an ‘altercation’ with their mother over the payment of medical bills.

The accused identified as Golam Sarwar was caught in the morning, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing.

Mother of the twins Ayesha Begum brought charges against Amar Bangladesh Hospital, where her six-month-old children were admitted.

A child named Ahmed died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while another baby Abdullah was admitted to the government hospital in a critical condition on Thursday after the hospital authorities threw out the twins, who were undergoing treatment there, without completing their treatment due to a disagreement over payment of bills, according to a RAB statement.

Ayesha is a resident of Savar’s Radio Colony area. The father, Homnar Jamal of Cumilla, of the babies is an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia.

Ayesha claimed they were driven out of the hospital around 3:00pm and transferred to DMCH with the help of a man named Shahin while one of her children died on the way.

An official of the hospital, however, denied the charges and said Ayesha had taken the twins away ‘of her own free will’.
