Stocks maintain gaining streak

Country's both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), on Thursday also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 57.52 points or 0.83 per cent to settle at 6,987.45. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 27.20 points to finish at 2,603.09 and 8.47 points closing at 1,472.15.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 16,834.77 million on the country's premier bourse which was Taka 14,141.64 million.

Gainers took a modest lead over the losers, as out of 378 issues traded, 164 closed green, 179 in the red and 35 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Delta Life topped the turnover chart, followed by Beximco, BSC, Power Grid and LHBL.

WMSHIPYARD was the day's best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while LOVELLO was the worst loser, losing 8.79 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -advancing 168.37 points to settle at 20,495.21 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX gaining 103.37 points to close at 12,310.45.

Of the issues traded, 136 advanced, 135 declined and 37 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 1.42 crore shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 41.29 crore.
