Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque on Wednesday said the government has provided 50-70 percent subsidy to farmers of the country for accelerating mechanisation of the agriculture sector.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a three-day conference titled “Use of Power and Energy Saving Technology for Sustainable Development of Agriculture” at the seminar hall of Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital.
“BRRI has developed a combine rice harvester which is much cheaper in price and very suitable for use on country’s land,” he said.
Calling on the companies to come forward to manufacture machinery in the country without relying only on imports, the minister said, “Many companies in the country are selling agricultural machinery.”
The minister said that the market is huge now. There is a huge demand for various equipments including irrigation machine, rice harvester and combine harvester. But, no one is preparing or assembling these in Bangladesh. Everyone is importing and selling from abroad.
