Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Thursday said that ICT investment will add 1 percent extra GDP growth to the country’s economy.
He expected this while inaugurating a three-day smartphone and tab expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Thursday.
The minister said that most of the smartphones being at the event are manufactured in Bangladesh.
He said, “On 12th December 2021, we launched 5G in Bangladesh and now at the Smartphone and Tab Expo 2022, the people of Bangladesh can experience 5G directly.” Huawei Technologies Chief Operating Officer Taoguanzio said that Bangladesh is making great strides in the development of Digital Bangladesh.
As the number of mobile users has increased, Huawei has been working as a development partner of Bangladesh in the telecommunications sector, he added.
“We are happy to participate in all kinds of activities from 2G to 5G in this progress of Bangladesh. From an investment efficiency standpoint, investing in digitisation and telecom-ICT is 6.7 times more efficient than investing in other areas of ICT,” Taoguanzio remarked.
