Kawla Footbridge over the busy road in Airport area of the capital is carrying a risk of collapse as its middle pillar has been damaged recently.

Sources said the roads and highways department set up and maintained the footbridge. But, they are not taking any step to repair it.

During a visit to the footbridge on Wednesday, the correspondent found that a large number of people were using the footbridge, risking their lives.

Pedestrians find no alternative to the footbridge to cross the busy road.

While talking to the correspondent, pedestrians have demanded immediate repair of the footbridge.

Farhad Hossain, a resident of Kawla area, said a pillar of Kawla footbridge has been damaged a few days ago.

“The footbridge is posing a risk of accidents. Many people use the footbridge to cross the airport road. The authorities should repair it as soon as possible.”

Talking to the Daily Sun, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Abdus Sabur said they would repair it as soon as possible.

“I am now directing my subordinate to take immediate action,” he said.
