Govt has to face ‘murder charge’ if anything bad happens to Khaleda

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that everyone in the incumbent Awami League government will be accused for ‘murder’ if anything bad happens to the party chairperson Khaleda Zia for lack of better treatment abroad.

“They (govt) are hatching conspiracy knowingly as part of their premeditated plan to kill our leader Khaleda Zia. They want to kill her. We would like to say if anything happens to her for lack of advanced treatment abroad, each of them will be tried making them accused of a murder case,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the statements while addressing a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Wednesday. As part of the party’s countrywide programme, BNP’s Dhaka south and north city units arranged the programme, registering their protest against the ‘unilateral’ 10th parliament election held on January 5, 2014.

In his speech, Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the Awami League government sent Khaleda to jail by convicting her in ‘false’ cases as part of its ‘blueprint of depoliticisation and eliminating her from the politics.

When people, irrespective of their party and view, want Khaleda Zia to be sent abroad, the current government and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are not allowing her to go there for treatment out of serious political ‘vengeance’, he said.

Mentioning that Khaleda Zia is now fighting for life in a hospital in the capital with a very critical health issue, Fakhrul said doctors are saying it is now essential to send her abroad right now but the government is not taking any steps in this regard.

The BNP secretary general urged the government to take immediate steps to send Khaleda abroad for treatment.
