DMP arrests 31 for selling, taking drugs

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in several anti-drug drives arrested 31 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs in the city during the last 24 hours till 6am on Sunday.

The DB of DMP in association with local police stations carried out the drives simultaneously starting at 6am on January 1, a DMP statement said on Sunday, reports BSS.

In separate anti-drug campaign, police conducted raids in the city’s different areas under various police stations and detained drug peddlers and abusers and also seized different kinds of banned and illegal drugs.

During the anti-drug campaign, police seized 50 grams and 100 puria (small packet) of heroin, 8.770 kilograms and 40 puria (small packet) of cannabis (ganja) and 4,002 pieces of yaba tablets from their possession, the statement added.

Police filed 28 cases against the arrestees in those connections with police stations concerned under the Narcotics Control Act.
