Speaker of the Parliament Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday said that Bangladesh’s graduation to developing country is a milestone progress.

“The graduation process of becoming a developing country is a milestone in the development of Bangladesh...this achievement has been possible for the courageous, wise and far-sighted leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” she said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the epitome of this historic achievement at the juncture of Mujib Year and the golden jubilee of victory, she said.

Dr Shirin was addressing as a special guest at a programme on ‘Transition to Developing Countries’ organized by the Economic Relations Department (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance. The programme was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the city, said a press release, reports BSS.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the function virtually as the chief guest.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, MP, presided over the ceremony while Dr Dipu Moni and Secretary of Economic Relations Department Fatima Yasmin also spoke, among others.

The Speaker said Bangladesh has reached a new height in the world because of the well-planned and timely policies adopted by the Prime Minister. The government put a focus on women empowerment and the motto of building digital Bangladesh, she added.

“The Prime Minister is taking the country forward on the ladder of prosperity by addressing innumerable challenges in building a knowledge-based society by implementing inclusive development strategies,” she added. The Speaker referred Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a world-renowned leader.

“The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman laid the foundation for building a ‘Golden Bengal’ in just three and a half years while the Prime Minister has been working tirelessly to materialize “Sonar Bangla” as dreamt by Bangabandhu,” she said.
