Hasan Foez Siddique likely next CJ

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is likely to be appointed the next Chief Justice of Bangladesh as his predecessor Syed Mahmud Hossain retires on December 30.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will issue a gazette in this regard after President Abdul Hamid signs the file.

Hasan Foez Siddique was enrolled as an Advocate of the District Court, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on August 8, 1981, September 4, 1983, and May 5, 1999 respectively.

He worked as the Legal Advisor to Khulna City Corporation, Kushtia Municipality, Jalalabad Gas Transmission Company and Chief Law Adviser of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Besides, he worked as Additional Attorney General for Bangladesh.

He was elevated as Judge of the High Court Division on March 25, 2009, and as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh on March 31, 2013.

He has been acting as the Chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission since April 4, 2015.

Justice Siddique held various positions in the past. Justice Hasan Foez Siddique also served as the chairman of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission.

In September 2019, Siddique briefly served as the Chief Justice of Bangladesh in absence of the Chief Justice.

He was appointed the chairman of the Judicial Service Commission in 2015. Later, he was reappointed chairman of the body on May 4, 2020.

On June 21, 2021, Siddique issued an order halting the bail of those accused of attacking a motorcade of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Justice Hasan Foez participated in the conference of South Asian Judges Regional Forum on Economic and Financial Crime held in Sri Lanka in 2011; South Asian Conference on Environmental Justice in Pakistan in 2012; International Conference on Environment held in New Delhi, India in 2015 and 17th International Conference of Chief Justices of the World held in Lucknow, India in 2016.
