JMB military commander arrested

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Counter Terrorism unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) on Wednesday arrested the Neo-JMB military commander and mastermind of the bomb blast at a police box in the city.    The arrestee was identified as Md Selim, 33, son of late Abu Taleb of Padua area under Lohagara upazila in the district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-CT) Ahmed Pear said an accused arrested earlier in the case disclosed name of Selim.

On information, they arrested Selim from Bangla Bazar area under the Akbar Shah police station, he said.

A total of 12 accused, including a student of Chattogram University, were arrested in the case so far.

Earlier on February 28 last year, at least five persons, including two cops, were injured in an explosion of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the police box in the city’s Sholoshahar Gate No-2 area.

A case was filed with the Panchlaish Police Station in this connection and the Counter Terrorism unit was investigating the incident.

The accused in his confessional statement also gave information about Dubai-expatriate Md Shahjahan who allegedly planned and provided financial assistance for the attack.
