The newly elected President of Bangladesh Olympic Association and Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said on Monday that their foremost aim will be increasing the number of medals in different regional games and Olympics as well.

He also said that the new committee will patronise those sports which have potential enough to bring medals at the international stage.

General Shafiuddin took charge as 16th president of BOA’s new EC on December 24 a day after the final result of the Executive Committee Election 2021 was published on December 23. The newly elected president talked with his elected committee members in a courtesy meeting at BOA Bhaban in the capital.

“We (EC) just talked today. All the members of the committee are experts in their respective fields. The goal is simple. We want to improve more. At the same time, we want to gain something visible, it will be our aim. Bangladesh have been doing well in Olympics, so we have achieved good results in different sports. We will invest in the potential sports. We are aiming to increase medals in regional games and the Olympics. It will be our foremost aim,” General Shafiuddin told the media.

“You must have to increase the number of medals. If you fail to do that, you can’t talk about your improvements. However, we have to increase the number of athletics tracks, football grounds and cricket stadiums. Shahed Bhai (BOA Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza) already talked with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and we all know that she loves sports a lot. I believe she will support us,” he concluded.
