A Dhaka court on Monday fixed January 9 for the delivery of verdict in a case filed against Partha Gopal Banik, a suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division, over the recovery of Tk 80 lakh from his residence in the capital.

Judge Shaikh Nazmul Alam of the Special Judge Court-4 set the date after concluding arguments in the case.

During the arguments, the prosecution told the court that they were able to prove charges against the accused and sought the highest punishment for the accused in the graft case.

Besides, the defence lawyer said the prosecution has failed to prove the charges against his client and sought acquittal of the charges.

Earlier, a total of 12 prosecution witnesses, including complainant of the case, were testified before the court in the case. The judge framed charges against DIG Partha in the case on November 4, 2020.

On August 24, 2020, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Salauddin submitted the charge sheet to the court.
