Customs officials at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet have detained four persons with over 11 kg gold on Monday.

The detainees have been identified as Sheikh Md Jahid of Habiganj, Mokbul Ali, Mofiz Uddin and Sultan Mahmud. They all are from Sylhet.

They were passengers of Bangladesh Biman flight (BG-248). The aircraft with passengers from Dubai landed at the airport at 9am.

The gold, which was hidden in a juicer blender in their luggage, is worth about Tk70 million, according to Md Al Amin, deputy commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in Sylhet.

Soon after the plane landed, the customs officials interrogated the persons, searched their luggage and found the gold. A gold smuggling case was filed against the detainees.
