KHULNA: The 14th traditional boat race, popularly known as ‘Nouka Baich’ competition-2021 will be held in the Rupsha river of divisional city Khulna on January 01.

Khulna Nagar Samajik o Sangskritic Kendra (KNSSK) in cooperation with Khulna District Administration will arrange the competition to mark the Golden Jubilee of the country’s Independence, as well as the observance of ‘Mujib Barsho’.

The race will be sponsored by leading industrial company Akiz Group of Industries, to promote the Bengali culture and heritage. The race was not held for last two years due to Coronavirus pandemic.

Molla Maruf Rashid, president of KNSSK confirmed the news over cell phone. He told in this regard, there was a preparatory meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s office on December 21 with DC Md Maniruzzaman Talukder in the chair. Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque was addressed the meeting as chief guest.

Around 30 boats from Khulna, Satkhira, Narail and Magura districts–split into three groups will take part in the competition, said the organisers. The competition will start at 2:00pm from Customghat point and end at Khanjahan Ali Bridge (Rupsha Bridge) point followed by prize distribution ceremony.
