A Dhaka court on Sunday again asked Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to submit the probe report by January 24 in a case filed over the murders of journalist couple Sagar-Runi in 2012.

Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikary passed the order after RAB Additional Superintendent of police Khandaker Shahidul Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit the report by the deadline.

With this, the investigation officers have so far taken 84 dates to complete the probe but there is no visible progress of the probe till now.

Even, the High Court in 2019 also expressed disappointment at the lack of significant progress in the probe into the sensational murder case.

According to the case, Sagar Sarwar, news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed in the early hours of February 11, 2012 in their rented flat in the capital’s West Razabazar area.

Soon after the incident, Runi’s brother Nawsher Alom filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital.

After the failure of the police and detectives in submitting the probe report in the twin murder case, RAB on April 18, 2012 started probing the case.
