Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Saturday visited the under construction Khurushkul Special Ashrayan Project at Khurushkul in Cox’s Bazar.

During the visit, the army chief monitored progress of the construction work of the project and provided necessary directions.

The project is being implemented by the 34 Engineer Construction Brigade of Bangladesh Army. The Khurushkul Special Ashrayan Project is a priority project of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The main objective of the project is to reduce the poverty of the population by rehabilitating 3,808 landless families due to climate migration and expansion of airports.

The ECNEC meeting approved the project on November 24, 2020 and it is expected to be completed by June 2023.

One of the main activities of the project is its construction of 119 five-storey buildings with pile foundation. In addition, various facilities, including religious places of worship, cyclone shelters, playgrounds and clean water supply are being constructed under the project.
