President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the loss of lives and injuries to passengers after a launch caught fire mid-river in Jhalakathi.

In a condolence message, President Hamid prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He also prayed for early recovery of the injured people.

In a separate message of condolence, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of the deceased and early recovery of those injured in the launch fire.

She conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Meanwhile, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury also expressed deep shock and sorrow at the loss of lives in Jhalakathi launch fire incident.

 In a condolence message, the state minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. He sought early recovery of the people who have sustained burn injuries.

In a separate message, Shipping Secretary Mohammad Mezbah Uddin also mourned the deaths of the launch fire incident.

At least 40 people were reported dead and over 100 injured so far after a midnight fire ravaged the launch “MV Obhijan 10” in the Sugandha River in Jhalakathi.
