Engineers, officers and other employees of the Petrobangla companies have demanded a separate pay scale like the Power Division companies.

Most of the 13 companies under the Petrobangla made a proposal in this regard.

Titas Gas Officers’ Welfare Association submitted a proposal with the demand for separate pay scale Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd on Sunday.

Association’s president Engr Md Salim Mia and general secretary MahmudulAlam Tareq signed the proposal.

It urged to create new posts in the country’s largest gas distribution companies like the Power Division companies.

The proposal mentioned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2016 instructed the authorities concerned to updatepay scales.

Besides, State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid in June, 2021 also asked the officials concernedto update the pay scales as per the instruction of the prime minister, the proposal mentioned.

“Due to the delay in implementing separate pay scale, many meritorious, honest and skilled officers of Titas Gas already left jobs,” the proposal said.

The association, therefore, urged the authorities to implementthe directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and revive the country’s energy sector.

Iqbal Bahar Faroque, ex-assistant general secretary of GTCL Officers' Welfare Association, also urged the authorities concerned to review the existing pay scale.

He said the talented technical officers already started leaving their jobs inthe sector as they were being employed with more lucrative payments in other sectors.

“I received around Tk 3 lakh per month in the World Bank’s MGSP project as a procurement specialist from the state-owned gas transmission company Ltd (GTCL’s). But compared to that, in GTCL, I receive around Tk 50,000 as a manager now,” he lamented.

Faroque said the current salary structure didn’t even follow the inflation in the country.

“So, the pay scale has produced large disparities between the Petrobangla companies and the Power Division companies,” he said.

Another Petrobangla company official Kanij Fatema also raised questions about the current pay scale.

She requested the authorities to implement a better salary structure like the Power Division companies.

Another officer Atia Bilkis Mitu made the same views over introduction to a separate pay scale for the Petrobangla companies.
