A Dhaka court on Monday granted bail to cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana in a case filed over their ‘illegal marriage’.

The court also granted bail to Tamima’s mother Sumi Akter in the same case.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after they surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

The court also fixed January 24, 2022 for a hearing on charge framing in the case.

On October 31, Nasir-Tamima was granted bail from the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim after the surrender in connection with the case.

But on September 30, the same court asked Nasir, Tamima and Sumi to appear before the court after accepting the probe report submitted by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in the case.

PBI Inspector Sheikh Md Mizanur Rahman, also Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the probe report against the three accused saying that the marriage of Nasir and Tamima was‘ illegal’.

PBI report said, Tamima did not divorce her first husband Rakib and he did not get any divorce notice from her. Rather, Tamima made a fake divorce notice. So, Tamima is still the wife of Rakib, said the report.

According to the case, Tamima, a cabin crew of Saudia Airlines, got married to Rakib Hasan on February 26, 2011 and they have an eight-year-old daughter.

But Tamima again got married to the cricketer on February 24, this year while photographs of their marriage went viral on social media which drew the attention of Rakib Hasan.

Later, Rakib Hasan filed the case with the court mentioning that Tamima tied the knot with Nasir without divorcing him.
