Bashundhara Group, the country’s largest industrial conglomerate, distributed blankets among 1,100 cold-hit people in various places of Panchagarh on Sunday.

Blanket distribution functions were organised in Panchagarh Sadar, Boda and Debiganj upazilas as part of the noble initiative of Bashundhara Group.

In Balavi village of Boda Upazila, 200 people of the ethnic communities received blankets and expressed gratitude for helping them during the pinching cold. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Soleman Ali, local Press Club President Nazrul Islam and other dignitaries handed over the blankets.

After receiving a blanket, Singamoni Hemrom, an ethnic man, said “Every winter brings sorrows to us. We cannot go out for work for not having warm clothes. Now we will be able to sleep or go out with the blanket.”av

Some 200 poor people received blankets at Debiganj Public Club premises, 200 others at Dhakaiapara mosque compound at Khochabari area of the upazila and 500 distressed people got blankets in four venues of Boda upazila.

Speaking on the occasion, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Soleman Ali said “We get government allocation which is inadequate compared to a huge number of people in need. Bashundhara Group has done a great job by reaching out to the poor and mitigating sufferings in aid of the government.”

Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, a teacher of the Debiganj Government College, said blankets donated by Bashundhara Group will be of great help to the poor people of Panchagarh who have been affected by the bitter cold.

As part of its humanitarian gesture, Bashundhara Group continues to distribute blankets in various districts of the northern region of the country.

Bashundhara Group distributed blankets among the poor at Bochaganj, Nawabganj and Birampur upazilas of Dinajpur on Saturday, the eighth consecutive day of the noble initiative.
