An Oman returnee injured worker received over Tk 11.4 million as compensation for losing his ability to walk and speak after being the victim of an accident in his workplace.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad handed over the check to injured returnee worker Khizmat Ali at Probasi Kallyan Bhaban on Tuesday.

The minister said Khizmat Ali received the money as compensation for accident at work from his employer.

“The matter has been settled in court there through our embassy. It took about four years. The money came to us through the embassy last month. Today we have handed it over,” he said.

He also advised him and his family to use the money properly.

Secretary of the ministry Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, Director General of Wage Earners Welfare Board Hamidur Rahman, Director (Finance and Welfare) Shoaib Ahmed and wife and children of Khizmat Ali were present on the occasion.

Khizmat Ali of Thakurgaon was deported from Oman in 2017 due to an accident at work place. He went to Oman for doing agricultural works only four years ago.

Since he lost his ability to walk and speak the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, in association with the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, took initiative to collect compensation through an Oman court.
