The High Court (HC) on Sunday stayed for six months the proceedings of a case filed against Grameen Telecom Chairman Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on charges of violating labour law.
A HC bench comprising Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after hearing on a petition seeking cancellation of the case. The HC bench also stayed proceedings of the case against Grameen Telecom Board Director Nurjahan Begum in the same order.
The other three accused are- Grameen Telecom Managing Director Ashraful Hasan, Board Directors Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
According to the case, a DIFE team went on an inspection to Grameen Telecom and found the violations of labour law like not regularising 101 staff, not establishing welfare fund for the labourers, among others.
