NETRAKONA: Netrakona liberation day was celebrated here on Thursday commemorating the front-battle between Pakistani occupation forces.

The people of Netrakona were liberated and their soil was freed from the occupation of Pakistani military forces on this day following the “landslide victory” of freedom fighters in the face-to-face war that took place at Muktarpara bridge area in the Netrakona town.

Netrakona district administration and different socio-cultural, political and professional organizations, including district Awami league and district Muktizoddha Sangsad took various programs to mark the day.

The programs included placing of floral wreaths on the memorial monuments of martyred freedom fighters and independence memorial monument here, holding of discussion meeting and musical soiree based on patriotic songs.

The day’s program formally started with the placing of floral wreaths at the freedom fighters memorial monument on the Netrakona district collectorate office premises by state minister for social welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, MP.

Then, Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali, MP, Deputy Commissioner Netrakona Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman, public representatives, political leaders, freedom fighters and people from all walks of life placed wreaths at the memorial monument.

As part from the program, a discussion meeting on “Netrakona liberation day” was also held at the conference room of district collectorate office.

State minister for social welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru addressed the meeting as chief guest while Deputy Commissioner Netrakona Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman was in the chair.

It was also addressed, among others, by Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali MP, Chairman of Netrakona Zila Parishad Prashanto Kumar Roy, mayor of Netrakona Municipality Nazrul Islam Khan and Additional police super Faqruzzaman Juwel.
