Bangladesh Football Federation accorded a reception to the football heroes of Swadhin Bangla Football Team in recognition of their contribution to the country’s liberation war in 1971 on the eve of the 50th year of Independence at its house in Motijheel on Wednesday.

A total of 18 from the 36-member team were present on the occasion. They are Tanveer Mazhar Islam Tanna (Manager), Zakaria Pintoo (captain), Protap Shankar Hazra (VC), Saidur Rahman Patel, Sheikh Ashraf Ali, Mohammed Kaikobad, Kazi Salahuddin, Shuvash Shaha, Aminul Islam Suruz, Abdul Momin Joarder, Abdul Sattar, Fazle Sadain Khokon, Biren Das Biru, Mozammel Haque, Abul Kashem Khan, AFM Badiuzzaman, Mujibur Rahman and Moin Uddin Sinha.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, MP handed over the crests to the team members as the chief guest.

The Swadhin Bangla Football Team toured throughout India and played a total of 17 friendly matches to raise international awareness and funds for the liberation war in 1971. The team contributed Tk 5 lakh to Muktijoddha Fund by the end of their matches. Besides, Swadhin Bangla Football Team captain Zakaria Pintoo was the first person to hoist the Bangladesh flag outside of Bangladesh territory.
