The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) on Wednesday demanded speedy execution of the verdict in the murder case of the university's student Abrar Fahad.

They made the demand at a press conference held under the banner of Buet General Students in front of the university Shaheed Minar at 2:30pm on Wednesday.     "We think this verdict is a reflection of everyone's thrust. We demand speedy execution of this judgment," the students said in a press statement.

"We express our solidarity with Abrar's family and hope that this judgment will be upheld till the end. This judgment will be an example in the history of Bangladesh," they said.

"We also expect no student or teacher to be victim of such destructive political culture on campuses,” they said.

"We also demand that the authorities concerned bring the three fugitive convicts: Ehteshamul Rabbi, Mustaba Rafid, Morshed-uz-Zaman Jishan back as soon as possible,” they said.

Meanwhile, BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Satya Prasad Majumder told the journalists that about Tk55 lakh has been spent so far in handling the case.

"We have provided whatever was requested by Abrar's family," he said.

"We sympathize with Abrar's parents. We have cooperated with them as much as possible on behalf of BUET and provided legal and financial assistance. We will do it in the future too," he added.

Abrar, a second-year student of EEE department of BUET, was beaten to death by some leaders and activists of the then BUET unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League on 7 October 2019 over his Facebook posts.
