Bangladesh U-19 team became champions in the triangular series in India after they secured a massive 181-run victory over India U-19 B team in the final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Ashiqur Zaman showcased a brilliant all-round performance in Bangladesh’s victory as he first scored 50 off 58 balls and put up a 94-run stand for the eighth wicket with middle-order batsman Aich Mollah, who also struck 93 off 91 balls, to help their side score 234 runs in the rain-marred 42-over contest.

The right-arm pacer then led their bowling attack by taking two early wickets while left-arm spinner Naimur Rohman Noyon and SM Meherob Hasan finished with 4-16 and 2-7 respectively as the visitors bowled out India U-19 B team for just 53 runs 21.3 overs to become unbeaten champions in the tournament.

The junior Tigers, who were sent into bat first, found themselves in a desperate situation after they were reduced to 115-7 in 25.1 overs.

Ashiqur, who came to bat at number nine position, then brought some resistance into the innings by putting up a fantastic stand with Aich to take Bangladesh score over the 200-run mark.

The partnership was finally broken after Dhanush Gowda, who was the most successful bowler for the hosts taking 3-62, dismissed Ashiqur in the 40th over but Aich played some big shots in the death overs to help his side post a decent total before getting all out in 41.4 overs. India -19 B team batsmen failed to get their feet from the beginning of their run-chase as they lost their wickets at regular intervals before being bowled out cheaply in the final.

Uday Saharan (26) and Kaushal S Tambe (11) were the only two Indian batsmen to reach double-digit scores in the innings. Ashiqur was named man of the final for his brilliant all-round display.

Bangladesh U-19 team earlier finished the league stage of the tournament on top after winning three games against their two Indian opponents. Their last league match against India U-19 B team was washed out without a ball being bowled due to rain.
