5 more die, 291 cases detected

Five Covid-19 patients died and 291 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, according to data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 4 deaths and 277 new cases were reported on Monday.

The daily corona infection rate has remained below two per cent for around a month. An infection rate of 1.78 per cent was reported on Tuesday. It was 1.44 per cent on Monday and 1.03 per cent on Sunday.

For the 64 consecutive days, the country reported a daily positivity rate below 3 per cent. The infection rate  was below 4 per cent for 73 days in a row and below 5 per cent for the last 80 consecutive days. The number of daily cases was reported below 500 for the last 55 days in a row, below 400 for 49 consecutive days and below 300 for 39 days in a row.

The number of total infections has reached 15,78,011 with an overall positivity rate 14.32 per cent. Some 20,014 samples were tested in the last 24 hours to detect the infection cases.

The national death toll has increased to 28,010 with a case fatality rate of 1.78 per cent. The number of death remains below 10 for the last 51 consecutive days.

At the same time, the recovery rate continued to improve in the country, reaching 97.78 per cent with the recuperation of a good number of Covid-19 patients every day.

Some 308 more Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the total number of recoveries to 15,42,908.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
