Weeklong ‘Jatra Utsab’ begins at Shilpakala

The 13th ‘Jatra Utsab’ (opera festival) began at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Tuesday.

BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky inaugurated the seven-day festival.

The Theatre and Film Studies Department of the BSA arranged the festival aiming to implement ‘Jatra Industry Development Policy 2012’ and register for the Jatra troupes.

A total of thirty-eight Jatra troupes from all over the country are participating in the event.

Reba Opera from Barishal, Trishul Natya Sampraday from Pirojpur, Swadhin Bangla Opera from Mymensingh, Dhansiri Jatra Unit from Jhalokati and Royal Bholanath Opera from Satkhira performed on the opening day.  

Jatra troupes ‘Jatrapala Alomoti’ (Barguna), ‘Bidrohi Burigonga’ (Pirojpur), ‘Bapari Mohosha Shur Mordini’ (Gopalganj), ‘Roktim Shurjo’ (Bagerhat), ‘Komolar Bonobash’ (Jamalpur) and ‘Meghe Dhaka Tara’ (Khulna) will perform today.

The festival will remain open for all from 2:00pm to 8:30pm every day.
