Indian President to visit Bangladesh Dec 15-17

New Delhi: India on Monday officially announced that President Ram Nath Kovind will pay a state visit to Bangladesh on December 15-17 to attend the 50th Victory Day celebrations of Bangladesh.

He will be on the visit at the invitation of President of Bangladesh Md Abdul Hamid, said the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

During the visit, the Indian President will hold a delegation-level meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also meet him.

Besides, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen will call on him.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a state visit to Bangladesh on March 26-27 last to join the celebrations of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is a major pillar of India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, the MEA said.

India and Bangladesh share progressive, comprehensive and substantial cooperation in diverse areas ranging from security, border management and defence, water resources, trade, transport and connectivity, health, culture and people-to-people ties, energy and power to development partnership and sub-regional cooperation, it said, adding that both countries have closely cooperated in addressing challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The upcoming visit of the Indian President on this historic occasion is a reflection of the high priority that both countries attach to the bilateral relationship, said the MEA.

It also reaffirms the shared desire of both countries to further consolidate and strengthen the multifaceted and irreversible partnership, based on historical and cultural ties, mutual trust and understanding, it said.
