DU launches youth entrepreneurship project

A pilot project has been launched to promote youth entrepreneurship in Bangladeshi universities.

The project titled “Capacity Building of Universities in Bangladesh to Promote Youth Entrepreneurship” was inaugurated at the central playground of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday.

The initiative is a part of DU centenary celebrations.

Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship Center (ICE) of DU and University Grants Commission (UGC) will jointly implement the project.

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide financial assistance in the project which aims to undertake entrepreneurship education and develop innovative skills at Dhaka University.

Planning Minister MA Mannan was present as chief guest while and Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Lee Jang-keun attended the event as guest of honor.

DU vice chancellor Prof Dr Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the inaugural function. Planning minister mentioned Korea’s support and cooperation to Bangladesh’s education and other sectors.

He said Bangladesh and South Korea had been enjoying friendly relations for a long time.

MA Manna hoped the project would equip the students with the knowledge of creativity and entrepreneurship.

Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said the pilot project would play an effective role in capacity building of young generation on innovation and entrepreneurship. “Academic and research activities as well as networking and relationship will be further strengthened between the University of Dhaka and Korean universities through the project,” he hoped.

According to Ambassador Lee Jang-keun, the pilot project is the symbol of existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and South Korea.

 “The bilateral relations between the two countries would be further strengthened through implementation of this project," the envoy said.

The session was also attended by Secondary and Higher Education secretary Md Mahbub Hossain, UGC member Prof Dr Abu Taher, BUET VC Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder, DU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal and DU Business Studies Faculty Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Abdul Moyeen as special guests.

The function was also addressed by KOICA country director Doh Young-Ah, project manager Derik Kim, vice-chairman of DU ICE Prof Dr Khondoker Bazlul Hoque, DU Teachers’ Association president Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah and executive director of ICE Md Rashedur Rahman.
