DINAJPUR: A schoolgirl has been saved from child marriage at Birampur upazila in the district.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and executive magistrate Parimal Kumer stopped the marriage of Bristy Akter, a sixth grader of a local school and daughter of Sharif of Natyashon village, conducting a drive there on Thursday night.

He paved the way for her to continue her study.

The mobile court of UNO Parimal jailed marriage registrar Rehan Reza for six months and fined the groom Rubel Islam Tk 22,000.

The court also took undertakings from the parents that they would not marry off their daughter before she turns 18.
