Bangladesh, US start joint naval exercise

A joint exercise titled ‘Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT-2021)’ between Bangladesh and US navies began at Chattogram BN Fleet Headquarters on Wednesday in a bid to expand relationships and broaden maritime awareness.

Commander BN Fleet Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the exercise through a videoconferencing.  Rear Admiral Christopher M Engdahl, CTF 76, joined the programme and represented the US Navy in the joint exercise.

US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) USS TULSA, MH-60S Helicopter and Bangladesh Navy Ship Somudra Avijan, Prottoy, Durjoy and Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA), specialised unit (SWADS) and Naval Aviation are participating in the joint training and exercise.

The joint exercise will end on December 9.
