BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the law is not an obstacle to sending Khaleda Zia abroad but the government doesn’t want her treatment abroad.

“The government doesn’t want to allow her (Khaleda Zia) to go abroad and put the law as an excuse. The law says if the government desires, it can allow her to go abroad,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the statement while speaking at a rally arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal in front of the party’s central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Wednesday, demanding the release of Khaleda Zia and her treatment abroad.

“Not the law, the obstacle is this illegal government. They want to make Khaleda Zia speechless, they are trying to remove her from politics,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) has demanded BNP chief Khaleda Zia's advanced treatment abroad and her permanent release.

“BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's physical condition is very critical; now at the crossroads of life and death. We demand the government for her permanent release and to allow her treatment abroad," DAB Secretary-General Abdus Salam said in a written statement at the press conference at the jatiya Press Club in the city on Wednesday.
