Wife of retired cop jailed in graft case

A court on Tuesday sentenced Mahmuda Khanam Swapna, wife of retired police inspector Mostafizur Rahman, to four years imprisonment in a case lodged over amassing illegal wealth and concealing

information about assets.

  Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 pronounced the judgement, and also ordered to seize her Taka 21.54 lakh under state exchequer. The court later sent the convict to jail after issuing conviction warrant, reports BSS.

     According to the case documents, Swapna is a housewife. She filed her wealth statement on May 14, 2015, concealing information about assets of Taka 17.62 lakh. She was found to amass illegal wealth of Taka 41.41 lakh and keeping those under her possession.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) deputy director Abu Bakar Siddique on June 29, 2016, filed the case against her with Ramna Police Station. ACC deputy assistant director Nazim Uddin on January 31, 2017, filed charge-sheet in the case.
