Investment Summit fetches $1.73bn FDI proposals

Bangladesh Investment Summit was wrapped up on Monday, bagging foreign investment proposals of around $1.73 billion.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam shared the information at the closing ceremony of the summit at Radisson Blu Dhaka.

"Investors from Saudi Arabia, China and other countries have expressed interest in energy, shipbuilding, cement, readymade garment and other potential sectors," the BIDA Executive Chairman said.

Some 465 foreign delegates represented different countries and international agencies at the two-day summit.

Finance Minister Mustafa Kamal virtually joined the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

Prime Minister's Adviser Salman F Rahman, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam and State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid attended the event in person as special guests.

A deal signing ceremony between BIDA and Karnafuli Specialised Economic Zone was also held at the function.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporter Association (BGMES) President Faruque Hassan, Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) President Rupali Chowdhury, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BWCCI) President Selima Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
