Bangladesh Navy on Friday rescued 14 fishermen alive from a fishing boat that had been floating for eight days in the Bay of Bengal, 140 km away from Cox’s Bazar.

The rescued fishermen are Monir Ahmed (boatman), Nawab Mia (son of the boat owner), Saifuddin, Salamutullah, Qasim, Shahadat Hossain, Salauddin, Abdur Rahim, Karim, Ravi Alam, Russell, Ansar, Selim and Jabbar. All of them are residents of Maheshkhali area.

On Sunday, BNS Durjoy handed the fishermen over to the boat owner in Chattogram.

On November 16, the fishing boat named FV Maryam carrying 14 fishermen went to sea for fishing. On the way, the boat’s engine broke down.

Navy personnel on patrol later rescued them from the ship’s search boat.
