Two Rohingya men, who were allegedly involved in robbery and drug dealing, were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Hnila union under Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Friday.
They deceased were identified as Kefayet Ullah and Qurban Ali.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting RAB officials to retaliate that triggered a ‘gunfight’, according to Additional Police Superintendent Md Abu Salam Chowdhury of RAB-15. Later, the elite force recovered the bodies of Kefayet and Qurban from the spot and sent them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.
The RAB team also recovered 20,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, arms and ammunition from the spot, said Lt Col Khairul Islam, the commanding officer of RAB-15.
The duo was accused in multiple arms and drugs cases.
